Frequently asked questions.

How do your lessons work?

We offer individual lessons in guitar, piano, bass guitar, drums, and vocal (depending on professor availability). The lessons are 45 minutes each, once a week.

How does your group program work?

Students in our group program take individual lessons (described above) as well as meet with a group of fellow students for one hour a week to rehearse songs, under the direction of one of our professors. Students enrolled in the group program work on the group’s songs on their respective instruments in their individual lessons each week, as well. The group program is a great way to boost a student’s enthusiasm for musical development, both from the exhilaration of being part of a bigger sound as well as being accountable each week to bandmates—and more driven to practice between rehearsals and lessons.

Who are your teachers?

We call our teachers professors—we are Roxford University, after all. Our professors are among the top performing professional musicians in the area. Their experience not just with their instruments but with the ins and outs of performance is invaluable to a Rox U education. Our professors have rocked with their own groups for years and have shared stages and recording studios with some pretty big names in the business.

How much do your programs cost?

It all depends on the right program for your child. Please contact us by call or text at (662) 801-0456 to discuss pricing. Fees are paid by the month at the beginning of the month. We accept credit cards, checks, cash, or Venmo.

What days and times are lessons offered?

Generally, our lesson slots, which are 45 minutes each, and our one-hour group sessions are on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and begin in the afternoon after schools let out and may run until 7:30 or so in the evening, depending on the particular professor’s schedule. Professors and parents sometimes may arrange for a make-up lesson on another day of the week.

We work with each parent to align with the right professor, to find a weekly time that works for both—or, in the case of a group rehearsal, a time that works for all the students.

Do you have instruments students may borrow?

Generally we do not loan instruments, though we provide amplifiers and equipment at Roxford for kids to plug into and use while taking lessons or participating in group rehearsals. We understand parents of beginning students are unsure about investing in a musical instrument before their child shows dedication, but very affordable beginner instruments are easily obtainable. We are happy to provide recommendations for the best instrument brands and models that are in the same very low price range as the many not-so-great quality ones out there.
